RAE leg #16
Slowly plugging away on that next RAE level.
We had two nice runs today, even though in Excellent there was another disagreement about the proper procedure of a halt-call front between me and my Terrierhead.
I think this is an exercise I’ll completely re-train from the ground up while on vacation next month. I know that he knows how to do it properly because I can do it ringside during warm-up and it’s perfect, and he has done it perfectly in the ring, too.
Currently he seems to think that in the ring he can just get up and sit in front of me at any angle, including 90 degrees, and if necessary on my feet. Teaching him to go away from me further (using a target stick) after getting up from the sit, turn and then front will fix that.
The honor sit was not a problem at all today, which was nice because it’s been a bit of a problem earlier this year. I just wonder what happened to mixing up the sit and down – of the 9 AKC rally trials we did this year, 8 had an honor sit.
Heeling wasn’t stellar due to major distractions from the goings-on of a huge show and a rally ring sandwiched in a not so great area. The only reason I entered was that it was a Friday so I can have Saturday off and prepare for our road trip.
We ended up with a 92 in Excellent and a 95 in Advanced, not bad but it put us just outside of placements.
