Starting the new competition year: first leg in UKC Rally Level 1
I’m beginning to think Quigley and I just aren’t meant to finish a title in one weekend. :p
In our Saturday run we scored an 88, a pretty average run.
The first run on Sunday was beautiful, nice heeling, no tight leashes, no sniffing, but Nervous Nellie me missed a sign and NQed us. Argh.
The second run was ok as far as heeling/sniffing goes, but Quigley clearly wasn’t interested anymore. It took me 5 commands to get him back into a sit from the down on the “Halt-Down-Sit” (“Mmm this grass is nice, I think I’ll just stay here a while”) and we had issues with the last exercise on the course – a simple call front and finish/halt.
In UKC Rally there is no IP like in AKC (improper performance, 10 points off but you might still scrape by), you are allowed one retry and if that doesn’t work out, it’s an NQ.
Ah well, it was a beautiful weekend, sunny with a nice warm breeze and it was great to be outside, especially at a club with such nice training grounds. Bonus: the first-ever UKC Rally trial West of the Mississippi!
