APDT Rally in Goleta
I’m finally recovered enough from 3 round trips to the APDT rally trial in Goleta (just over 600 miles total) to post a summary. lol
I’ve never managed to get all the required legs for any title in a single weekend, so I can’t say I’m surprised it didn’t happen, but boy did I have a major case of terrier-headed-ness on my hands!
Friday:
One run in Level 2, and one run in the Veterans class.
L2 was a total bust, I had us excused after about 5 of 20 stations since Quigley was.not.listening.at.all. In APDT rally you get dinged for each extra command, so it was quite pointless to keep going after I couldn’t get him back to me while he was happily sniffing 6 feet away.
The veteran’s run was ok, I was able to keep his interest and we finished with a 3rd place.
Saturday:
One run in Level 2, and one run in the Veterans class.
He did better in L2 and we actually managed to scrape by with a Q of 179 points. Considering that he did his bonus exercise perfectly, this is quite an embarrassing score.
Veteran’s went pretty well again, another 3rd place.
Sunday:
One Level 2 run, sadly no veteran’s class offered.
It was quite a bust. My dog marked the ring gate about 5 exercises into the course. I declined the judge’s kind offer to complete our run anyway for practice.
Granted, the ring was over twice as large as what we’ve been seeing in AKC and even UKC rally, but geez! We’ll be focusing on practicing attention heeling for quite some time to brush up on it!
There was a lady with a little Beagle who apparently has been trying for a long time to complete L1, and she got that last leg with a 170 and a course time of 3:59 (!!!!!!!!!) yesterday. I cheered!
