We didn’t qualify today, but I’m so proud of my little guy.<\/p>\n
It’s been over a year since we have done regular Obedience, I was focusing on getting our Rally Excellent title.<\/p>\n
Quigley likes Rally much better because you are allowed to communicate with the dog throughout the entire course and repeat commands (verbal and signal, if necessary) without penalty. In regular Obedience you give a command (for AKC verbal or signal, with very few exceptions, UKC allows both simultaneously) only once and if your repeat it, it’s several points off for each extra command.<\/p>\n
Anyway, a perfect score in Obedience is 200, the minimum score to qualify is 170, and in the past we’ve been hovering anywhere between 174 and 184.<\/p>\n
Today we would have gotten a 191.5 if it hadn’t been for the minor thing of Quigley NQ’ing by not holding a 1-minute sit\/stay. He went down after about 20 seconds. It was so very hot and we had to wait about 3 1\/2 hours for our turn in the ring, I really don’t blame him for wanting to lie down instead, but it was odd for him to blow such an easy exercise.<\/p>\n
We only got 3 points off for our heel on leash and figure 8 exercises, and 5 1\/2 points off on the off leash heel – no deductions for the stand for exam, recall, and down\/stay. Good boy!<\/p>\n
Heeling is Quigley’s weakest point in Obedience, that’s why I can’t wait to finally get out of the Novice class – it has 2 heeling patterns whereas Open only has one.<\/p>\n
So things didn’t really go bad today, but hopefully it will be better tomorrow.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
