Great Western Terrier – one of my most favorite shows of the year. Terriers, terriers, and more terriers, big and small, all over the place, in a beautiful setting!<\/p>\n
It’s too bad that not very many terrier people brave the obedience and rally rings. Quigley and I were the only team in Excellent B and Advanced B. There was one Advanced A dog (a cute little Cairn Terrier), and 6 or 7 Novice dogs. Obedience had\u00c3\u201a\u00c2\u00a0 3 entries in Utility, 3 in Open, and 5 in Novice. This at a 3-day show that has about 900 dogs entered each day! Last year there were 5 dogs each in Advanced B and Excellent B…<\/p>\n
Anyway, we had two decent runs that were so much better than last weekend, but could have been better. As the only team in a class there is no chance for a warm-up between the walkthrough and being called up. I was also a bit self conscious during the walkthroughs and cut them short, so our runs weren’t very well planned out as far as footwork and setting up for the individual stations goes. I felt like I had two left feet, bungled the Moving Stand – Walk Around so we had to re-do it, got lost on a 270 and turned it into an almost 360 and a few other minor things.<\/p>\n
What made me really happy is that Quigley barely sniffed at all. He had his head down a little occacasionally, but not with the nose in the grass, and he did the offset figure 8 with good attention. He was happy to work and forging, so I had to make an effort to keep him contained – at least that’s better than having to cheerlead.<\/p>\n
